What is the Thai FDA? Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration, commonly known as Thai FDA, is the national regulatory authority operating under the Ministry of Public Health. It is responsible for protecting public health by ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of a wide array of health-related products, including foods, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetics, herbal products, narcotics, psychotropic substances, hazardous chemicals, and volatile substances. The agency is supported by specialized expert committees covering domains such as medical devices, drugs, food, and cosmetics. What does the Thai FDA do? The Thai FDA undertakes comprehensive regulatory oversight throughout the product lifecycle. Pre-market responsibilities include evaluating product safety, effectiveness, and quality prior to authorizing market entry. For ongoing oversight, the agency manages post-market vigilance—monitoring adverse events, coordinating recalls, and conducting inspections to enforce compliance. The Thai FDA also oversees the licensing of establishments and dealers, supervises the import and export of regulated goods, regulates product labelling and advertising, and maintains one-stop service centers to streamline regulatory interactions across product categories.
